Outdated PNP4Nagios Plugin Documentation

The PNP4Nagios plugin documentation still has old versions of PHP and Ubuntu.

The documentation does not produce a functioning plugin. When setup it doesn't produce the necessary RRD files for displaying the graph.

Sadly I don't have the time to write a guide for this right now, otherwise I'd do it myself.

Paths

Complex

A more complex but modern way, as presented by Griesbacher in a presentation, is to use nagflux, InfluxDB, Histou and Grafana, it might be wise to replace the PNP4Nagios Section with a guide on nagflux and InfluxDB integration.

Simple

If simplicity is a priority it might be wise to resort to an InfluxDB dashboard and cut out the middle men(histou and grafana) since it seems(pure speculation from the READMEs and the commit history) as the middle men aren't as well maintained as nagflux.

EDIT: Mind you I don't know if nagflux will work with InfluxDB3 because it seems as they've removed flux.

we use nagflux/histou a lot, but only with influxdb1 or viktoriametrics.

To be honest I haven’t used pnp4nagios in probably 10+ years, and would need to google all the knowledge again.
I think with updating the documentation we would not help much people as most want to use Grafana these days anyway.

Maybe we could add a notice to the docs that this is old tech and only online for reference. We use Statusengine + Graphite by default on all of our systems: https://statusengine.org/getting_started/#performance-data

It’s probably better to write a new guide for nagflux and Statusengine than to update this dinosaur.

we still use and maintain pnp (https://github.com/ConSol-Monitoring/pnp) there is even a datasource for grafana to use pnp data.
