[FEATURE] Adding Ubuntu 26.04 Support #1740
Description

I'd like to test this. Does the install.sh script install all the hyprland dependencies or just the dotfiles
Yes if you use the new branch https://github.com/solidus1983/dotfiles/tree/test/swaync-wallpaper-race-fix it will do everything for you. You just need to install Git, and that's it
Reacted by Donald WilliamsThis is great. What's your suggestion how to proceed?
PR and merge into main? Or a dedicated branch for testing first?
I would like to use hyprpolkit on Arch and Fedora too instead of Gnome polkit.
Any experiences?@dwilliam62 Thank you for testing.
@mylinuxforwork Personally, I would do the following:-
Drop any fixes that are already in your repo, which are the following:
-
Then make a PR against
mainfor merge -
Then update the setup.sh script to detect Ubuntu and install for Ubuntu.
- Will require repo names that need editing for this.
I can test Fedora, as I have experience with it. I haven't tried Arch, but I can run another test without hyprpolkit to see if gnome-polkit works.
However, from my understanding:
- Arch: Simply install
hyprpolkitagentviayay, pacman, paruafter making sure you have theextrarepository enabled - Fedora: Simply install
hyprpolkitagentviadnf - Update
autostart.luawithhl.exec_cmd("systemctl --user start hyprpolkitagent.service 2>/dev/null || true")
-
@mylinuxforwork Question: Logging, I use it throughout my scripts. Do you want them removed, or should we keep them?
~/.ml4w-install.log[Logs the installation of packages, as well as building from source code]~/.ml4w-missing-packages.log[ Logs packages that weren't installed (Can mean that the package is not available on the distro it's installed on, however)]
@mylinuxforwork In terms of the two PR's i have mentioned
-
fix Gnome Polkit Agent for Tumbleweed setup #1333, works well, and after checking the absolute paths section, it covers all distros, so it shouldn't cause issues.
-
Fix screen share by force-starting portal services (#1604) #1669, I have also tested this, and it works flawlessly
If you can get them merged to main, I can then rebase my codebase and then do the PR.
I'd rather not be adding others PR's into a Feature PR if possible; it's not fair to the original creators of the PR.
Then after that I could script up an
Install hyprpolkitin the welcome area just like you have withhyprmod; it's then cleaner that way.-
I noticed some fixes have gone into main branch, I shell rebase test and then make the PR. Will do most over the weekend if I can.
@mylinuxforwork I have updated and rebased to your latest main branch, then rebased my branch with the changes.
Testing on the test/ubuntu-26-04-vm-install branch now; if all works, I will create the PR
Found some bugs during testing and will be looking to resolve them before the PR
Reacted by Stephan RaabePR is now live @dwilliam62 @mylinuxforwork , I marked it as a draft just in case any changes are required, or an update requires me to update the branch before it goes into full PR for acceptance.

Additional context
A while back I noticed the issue [FEATURE] : Anyone Interested in Ubuntu/Debian-based distro support?, and I added some comments there at the time. However, rather than taking over the OP's thread, I thought it would be better to open a new issue for this.
I've managed to put together a working set of scripts that installs ML4W on Ubuntu 26.04.
Before opening a PR, I'd appreciate some feedback on the changes:
main...solidus1983:dotfiles:feature/ubuntu-26-04-support
I'm aware I'll still need to remove the
install-ubuntu.shscript and adjust the existingsetup.shto add Ubuntu support there instead.Support or Contribution
