Problem

Base64 thumbnail encoding blocks the main thread for large images.

Solution

  • Move thumbnail encoding to Web Worker
  • Use OffscreenCanvas for resize operations
  • Cache results with 24h TTL

Targets

  • Screenshot galleries
  • Document preview thumbnails
  • Image upload previews

Impact

  • 200-400ms main thread blocking eliminated
  • 30-60% faster thumbnail display
