  • Apply resolution strategy
  • Validate results
  • Handle edge cases

Acceptance Criteria

  • Resolves simple conflicts
  • Semantic understanding
  • Safe resolution only
  • Human review option
  • High success rate

    ✅ Implemented in commit c33a4d9

    Summary

Implemented comprehensive intelligent merge conflict resolution system with AI-powered analysis and multiple resolution strategies.

    Backend Components (1,067 lines)

    • ConflictParser: Parses git conflict markers (standard and diff3 style)
    • ValidationEngine: AST-based Python syntax validation with import checking
    • MergeConflictResolver: Core resolver with 6 resolution strategies
    • Conflict severity classification: trivial/simple/moderate/complex/critical

    API Endpoints (566 lines)

    • POST /analyze - Analyze conflicts in a file with severity distribution
    • POST /resolve - Resolve conflicts using specified strategy
    • POST /analyze-repository - Repository-wide conflict scanning
    • POST /apply - Apply resolved content to file with optional backup
    • GET /strategies - List available resolution strategies with descriptions
    • GET /check - Quick boolean conflict detection

    Resolution Strategies

    1. Semantic Merge: AI combines both changes intelligently
    2. Pattern-Based: Uses historical patterns for common conflicts
    3. Accept Both: Preserves both sides (for non-conflicting additions)
    4. Accept Ours: Keeps current branch changes
    5. Accept Theirs: Keeps incoming branch changes
    6. Manual Review: Requires human review for complex conflicts

    Features

    • Safe mode: Forces review for complex conflicts (COMPLEX/CRITICAL severity)
    • AST validation: Ensures resolved Python code is syntactically correct
    • Import validation: Detects duplicate imports
    • Repository-wide scanning: Analyzes all Python files for conflicts
    • Confidence scoring: Each resolution includes confidence score (0.0-1.0)
    • Comprehensive testing: 48 unit tests covering all functionality

    Test Coverage (841 lines)

    • 13 test classes for backend module
    • 7 test classes for API endpoints
    • All resolution strategies tested
    • Severity classification tests
    • Validation engine tests
    • Error handling tests

    Verification

    • ✅ All files have valid Python syntax
    • ✅ Pre-commit hooks pass (black, isort, flake8, function length <65 lines)
    • ✅ Router registered in feature_routers.py
    • ✅ Commit message follows convention with issue reference
    • ✅ Comprehensive test suite included
