Bug: .gitignore core.* pattern blocks legitimate files in subdirectories #1663

Description

@mrveiss

Problem

.gitignore line 206 has core.* to ignore Linux core dump files, but this pattern matches any file named core.* in any directory — including legitimate files like requirements-ci/core.txt.

Discovered during #1655 when requirements-ci/core.txt was silently excluded from git add. Workaround: renamed to framework.txt.

Suggested Fix

Replace core.* with a more specific pattern:

# Core dumps (Linux)
core
core.[0-9]*

This matches actual core dumps (core, core.12345) without blocking files like core.txt or core.json.

Impact

Low — workaround in place. But could silently block future files named core.* in any subdirectory.

    Resolved — commit 02b1f18 landed directly on Dev_new_gui.

    Changes:

    • Replaced overly broad core.* with /core + core.[0-9]*
    • Files like core.txt in subdirectories are no longer silently excluded
