This fixes issue RUST-229

Tested by creating local rust client and connecting to mongodb local instance started with cmd ./bin/mongod --dbpath ~/mongodb --ipv6

Hey @pdhanoya, I have a PR up to implement this with some additional testing: #1242. Can you please let us know whether these changes work for you? Once we get confirmation from your end we can merge and put out a release.
