🐟 Smart Aquaculture Monitoring & Early Warning System
📌 Problem Statement
Aquaculture ponds frequently suffer sudden fish mortality and reduced productivity due to rapid and unmonitored changes in water and surrounding air quality. Critical parameters such as dissolved oxygen, pH, temperature, ammonia, and toxic gases like hydrogen sulfide are not continuously tracked, causing early signs of fish stress and disease to go unnoticed.
Because there is no integrated real-time monitoring or early warning system, farmers are unable to respond in time. This results in overnight fish deaths, water quality degradation, excessive feed wastage, and significant economic losses. Feeding decisions are often made blindly, further worsening pond conditions.
💡 Proposed Solution
This project implements a smart IoT-based aquaculture monitoring system that continuously measures water and air quality parameters using sensors connected to an ESP32 microcontroller. Sensor data is transmitted in real time to a cloud backend, where it is processed, stored, and analyzed.
The system provides instant alerts when abnormal conditions are detected and visualizes live and historical data on a user-friendly web dashboard. A machine learning layer analyzes trends and detects anomalies to predict risk conditions early. This allows farmers to take timely corrective actions such as aeration, water exchange, or feed adjustment before losses occur.
⚙️ System Architecture & Workflow
Sensors measure water and air quality parameters in the pond.
ESP32 collects sensor data and sends it to the server via MQTT/HTTP.
Backend APIs process incoming data and store it in a time-series database.
Rule-based logic detects threshold violations and triggers alerts.
Machine learning models analyze historical data for anomaly detection and risk prediction.
Farmers monitor real-time data and alerts through a web dashboard.
