Visual Hints for package management and configuration management #5940

Description

Relevant area(s)

WinGet CLI

Description of the new feature / enhancement

There are several scenarios where additional visual hints would be helpful.

For example, today when a WinGet Configuration file has a resource requiring elevation, the 🛡 symbol is used.

There are several other cases where something like this could be useful:

  • Verified Developer ✔
  • Elevation Required 🛡
  • Requires Explicit Targeting (WinGet sources) 🞋
  • Requires Explicit Targeting (WinGet manifests) 🞜
  • Pinning 📌
  • CVE ❗

Some related issues:

The symbols above aren't locked, but I wanted to at least put some suggestions up. The main concern is that they will render in the default fonts. For example, there is an image used for publisher verification that is an image as opposed to a glyph or Unicode character which wouldn't be suitable for use in a terminal/CLI based application.
