VS Code installer hangs at "Preparing to Install: Setup is preparing to install..."

Does this issue occur when all extensions are disabled?: N/A - installer issue

• OS Version: Win 11 Pro - 10.0.26100 Build 26100

Steps to Reproduce:

1. Download installer from vs code website (user or system version)
2. Start installer
3. Accept all defaults in the installer

When I try to install VS Code (either the user or system version) the installer hangs at the "Preparing to Install: Setup is preparing to install..." step. I found these related issues, but they are locked and I am not able to comment on them. I am able to install if I restart my PC in Safe Mode.

Below I have a video showing the behavior any my system info. If there is any more info that I can provide to help investigate let me know. This is significantly impacting my ability to work on C# Dev Kit related issues.

You should be able to find some log files popping up in %TMP% when the setup runs, can you check?

@joaomoreno, I just ran the installer a few minutes ago (11:32 local time). Image below shows the new files in %TMP%.

cv.debug.log has content like {"logTime": "0416/051441", "correlationVector":"97DA33B2FD4B4216BD9ABB27E8317549","action":"FETCH_UX_CONFIG", "result":""} which I think is an Edge log file but not sure.

The files boxed in red all contain text data looking like ffd8 ffe0 0010 4a46 4946 0001 1111 1111.

The .ses file has only two lines of data which looks like an ID and a guid.

It doesn't look like anything was logged from VS Code setup here unless its one of the files with a red box in the image.

Hmm that's odd. Can you try running the setup from a command line and passing /log to it?
