Debug multiple applications running in a single Weblogic server #1345

Description

I used to use IntelliJ IDEA to debug my Weblogic apps (all running on a single debug port on single server), but now I've switched to VS Code for various reasons.

I'm noticing that I can't debug multiple applications at the same time as I used to with IntelliJ.
If I try to open multiple VSC windows, one for each application, I'm only able to connect one debugger at a time.
If I add all the projects to a single VSC workspace, and I connect the debugger, it seems to pick the first project that was added to the workspace to debug. It will ignore breakpoints from other applications.
Any advice is appreciated.

    Hi Dovie Weinstock (@DovieW), I'm an AI Support assistant here to help with your issue. While the team reviews your request, I wanted to provide some possible tips and documentation that might help you in the meantime.

    Here are a few suggestions and references:

    • Remove the projectName from your attach configuration so the debugger will apply breakpoints across all loaded classes, e.g.:

    {
      "type": "java",
      "request": "attach",
      "hostName": "localhost",
      "port": 5005
    }

    This lets VS Code match breakpoints by fully qualified class name rather than a single project.

    • Use a compound launch configuration to fire off multiple attach sessions at once (even if they all hit the same port):

    {
      "compounds": [
        {
          "name": "Attach All Apps",
          "configurations": ["AppA","AppB","AppC"]
        }
      ],
      "configurations": [
        {
          "name": "AppA",
          "type": "java",
          "request": "attach",
          "hostName": "localhost",
          "port": 5005
        },
        { /* AppB, AppC defined similarly */ }
      ]
    }

    • Track the VS Code Java Debugger enhancement to allow multiple project names in one launch – this is exactly your scenario:

    • #1197: Allow multiple project names in launch.json
