GUI won't work on Windows 10 ltsc 2021 x64 19044.1288

Hello,

I’m having an issue with GUI applications on Windows 10 LTSC 2021 (19044.1288).

GUI apps do not work. For example, when I run gnome-text-editor, I get the following error:

(process:5027): Gtk-WARNING **: 09:47:46.962: cannot open display: :0

I specifically need GUI support for Chromium, but it does not work either.

Additional information:

WSL version: WSL 2 (2.7.10.0 x64)
Everything else works fine (CLI tools, networking, etc.)
Only GUI applications fail to start

How to collect WSL logs

Download and execute collect-wsl-logs.ps1 in an administrative powershell prompt:

Invoke-WebRequest -UseBasicParsing "https://raw.githubusercontent.com/microsoft/WSL/master/diagnostics/collect-wsl-logs.ps1" -OutFile collect-wsl-logs.ps1
Set-ExecutionPolicy Bypass -Scope Process -Force
.\collect-wsl-logs.ps1

The script will output the path of the log file once done.

If this is a networking issue, please use .\collect-wsl-logs.ps1 -LogProfile networking instead, following the instructions in Collect WSL logs for networking issues

Once completed please upload the output files to this GitHub issue.

Can confirm on Windows 10 22H2 as well. When I run wsl with guiApplications=false, it works okay. As soon as I enable it, it shows a dialog of RDP:
"Could not load the Remote Desktop Services ActiveX control. Make sure rdclientx.dll is in the path"
Now, I have ensured that it's in the path. I also tried adding the dll via 'regsvr32', with no avail

Hi @sheikhmishar , for your issue, please check if the file C:\Program Files\WSL\rdclientax.dll exists. WSL uses the packed dll instead of the system one.
If not, please download the msi installer from https://github.com/microsoft/WSL/releases and repair / reinstall WSL.
