Direct csWin32 Output To VS File

Hello Guys,

I'm hoping someone can help me with an issue. I was under the impression that csWin32 produced an output file that contained the DLLImport statements that were requested in the NativeMethods.txt file. Thus far I have not been able to produce this file. Is it possible to have csWin32 send it's output to a .cs file that can be used in Visual Studio? If so, how is this done?

Secondly, is it possible to have csWin32 produce VB output instead of C# output? If so, how is this done?

CsWin32 is a C# source generator and does not support Visual Basic.
You can use the Riverside.Win32 package to use CsWin32 in Visual Basic.

As for your question about producing source generations, you need to make sure the project is correctly referenced as a source generator:

  <IncludeAssets>runtime; build; native; contentfiles; analyzers</IncludeAssets>
</PackageReference>

Of course, CsWin32 won't work in any other language than C#, though you can use the package I linked above to do that.

cswin32 is a source generator, if you want to see what it emits you can either set true</> in your csproj. Or in VS, expand the Dependencies node in the solution explorer like this:

Additionally, with #1474 there is now a mode to generate files before compile time if you want to do something with the files.
