public/sitemap.xml is produced by next-sitemap on every build, but it is also committed, so a 743-line generated diff rides along inside unrelated PRs. Its history shows this happening in release PRs such as #1689 and #1744, where the regenerated sitemap dwarfs the actual content change. The committed copy is also only correct by luck: it is refreshed when a release PR happens to regenerate it, not when pages change. Any PR that adds a page without running a build leaves it stale. Vercel serves the build output rather than the committed file, so removing it from git changes nothing about what is served. The sister repo, worldwideweb, already gitignores its own sitemap and serves it correctly. Co-authored-by: Claude Opus 5 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com>
