UI Bug: Side/Bottom Menus and Input/Generate Fields Missing or Displaced

Expected Behavior

The side/bottom menus should remain fixed in place and accessible with button or sliders, and the text input and “Generate” button should (used to) remain visible regardless of resolution.

Actual Behavior

Critical UI components are missing or displaced at certain resolutions, making the ui unusable.

After updating SwarmUI v0.9.6.2 (2025-06-07), key UI components are no longer accessible at certain screen resolutions. The side and bottom menus do not display properly, and the text input and “Generate” button are completely missing.

Steps to Reproduce

1. Open SwarmUI in any modern browser (desktop or mobile).
2. Resize the window/zoom to a mid-range resolution.
3. Observe the missing or displaced UI elements.

Debug Logs

Browsers and Devices Tested:
Issue is present across all tested environments:

• Desktop: Chrome, Firefox, Edge (latest versions)
• Mobile: Safari (iOS), Chrome (iOS)

Same result on all five browsers.

I've reviewed all commits made between May 20 and June 8, 2025 that changed files in the src/ folder to identify what broke the ui and caused the disappearance of the side menu toggle arrow, text input, and Generate button.

The culprit is commit 5ab12da from 2 weeks ago (somewhat vaguely functional mobile UI kinda). Reverting before this point fixes all of the issues. This is obviously not a permanent fix, but for now it will do until a future update.

Is your desktop window <768 pixels wide?

The issue does happen when the window is under 768px wide. But I also noticed it shows up at higher resolutions too, especially if display scaling is turned up (like 125% or 150% in Windows and using mobile or tablet in portrait mode (on my iphone via lan for instace, the ui is completly broken).

One more thing I just realized: while the side and bottom menu buttons are missing, I can now swipe to reveal those menus, so it looks like that part might’ve been changed on purpose. But even with that, if you change the location of the menus to the centre area, the text input and generate button are completely gone at certain sizes. Although swiping might be a little more convenient on mobile, the behaviour is very inconsistent and needs multiple try.

So maybe the new layout is hiding or de-prioritizing key elements when the screen size or scaling changes?

Yes the changes are intentional for a mobile device like an iPhone. It's a work-in-progress mobile mode, since the og desktop setup was nearly unusable on mobile.

The only potential bug here is your desktop device being misdetected as mobile. The usual recommendation online is to detect width<768px to detect mobile (there's no actual mobile vs desktop flag given by browsers, it has to be heuristically detected).

I could probably add a manual override under QuickTools or something to force the alternate mode.
