Warning
While still extremely useful for Ableton Live-based Launchpad Lightshows, it's been functionally superseded by Apollo Studio since mid-2019.
Outbreak has issues with more recent releases of Live 10 and Live 11 and I no longer have interest in patching these issues. If someone is interested, feel free to fork and maintain it yourself.
If you want to use Outbreak safely, the best version of Live to use is 10.0.1.
Outbreak is a set of Max for Live plugins whose purpose is to aid in quickly producing modular and responsive lightshows for the Novation Launchpad controllers with minimal effort. They can also be chained with other plugins outside the Outbreak set and the included Ableton MIDI effects. Outbreak devices are designed with performance and flexibility in mind, so they can be used for all kinds of different purposes.
- Ableton Live
- 9 Suite (32-bit or 64-bit) or 10 Suite (or their Trial counterparts).
- Must satisfy all of Ableton's System Requirements.
- Cycling '74 Max
- If using Live 9 Suite, Max 7 or higher is officially supported and recommended. Max 6 might work, but has not been tested and is not officially supported.
- If using Live 10 Suite, the built-in Max 8 is officially supported.
- OS
- Windows and macOS are officially supported.
- Running Ableton on Linux via WINE might work, but has not been tested and is not officially supported.
- Launchpad
- Outbreak works with all models of Launchpads.
There are no specific installation instructions for working with Outbreak, as it works out of the box no matter where you've placed it, but it is recommended to keep the devices inside the Current Project folder to enable easier sharing of your projects (the recipient will not need to download Outbreak separately, and the project will work out of the box provided the recipient satisfies the System Requirements). You can easily make your project folder perfectly shareable by selecting Collect All and Save in Ableton Live’s File menu.
For detailed instructions on using Outbreak, refer to the latest Documentation.
