the url of my issuer is https://www.issuer.com/. The noted line adds /.well-known/openid-configuration, making it a total of https://www.issuer.com//.well-known/openid-configuration which resolves in a 404

Thanks for pointing this out. Can you use https://www.issuer.com instead of https://www.issuer.com/

no because the returned openid conf says its url contains the slash. the lib then tells me, there is an issuer url mismatch
