This continues the work from #3279 , now with the upsteam LLVM fix 62bed56 for the issue that PR ran into.
Disabling deprecated-declarations warning for now.
Not yet incorporating other fixes from @aartbik in #3282 but maybe we need to, let's see what CI says.
