Show error when a file can't be loaded

Currently, if either the path to project.json or one of the files listed in project.json can't be loaded, the playground-example shows a loading animation and nothing else.

It would aid quick diagnosis of broken samples if the element showed a "couldn't load " message, either in the UI or in the console.
