the proposed fix for a custom kernel will fail for the same reason it does inside the container. They would need to use the headers they compiled the custom kernel from and then map that in.
that said, most users who custom compile kernels always have the headers handy, so it's really just the apt suggestion that should be removed.

Perhaps the wording is not clear. By custom kernel, I meant pop_os version, as opposed to the ubuntu version. Then the headers would need to be retrieved from the pop_os repo, which the container does not (only tries ubuntu and debian repos)
