Sound / notification sometimes not going off

Delivery of alarm notification / sound seems to be inconsistent. Sometimes it doesn't go off at all, other times it gets delivered in batches. Is this related to the sleep-wake stuff iOS does in the background?

Look into open source iOS alarm clock apps, and compare their implementation to ours

I don't have a solution for now, I think it's best to test it on some other devices, then maybe we can come to a conclusion.
