Review comments at @src/cli/capabilities-agents-routing.ts:
- Around line 6-7: Update the `sessions` capability details in the routing
metadata to distinguish local discovery via the effective CODEX_HOME Unix socket
from `--host` discovery via the live foreground owner’s authenticated loopback
route. Preserve the existing Linux/macOS, no-daemon, and no-partial-directory
behavior, and regenerate the skill surface so its reference reflects the updated
detail.
Review comments at @src/messaging/remote-enrollment.ts:
- Around line 52-62: In handleEnrollmentControl, reject new enrollments with a
peer_capacity error when current.peers has reached REMOTE_LIMITS.peers, before
creating the incoming capability or pushing a peer; preserve the existing-peer
reuse path.
- Around line 85-104: Update the pending-journal handling inside withRemoteLock
to load the current enabled configuration before processing an existing journal;
delete journals whose generation differs from the current generation, then
continue enrollment, while retaining same-generation mismatch protection. Add an
explicit CLI path to abandon a same-generation pending enrollment and warn that
the remote side may need cleanup; update the disable/re-enable test and
documentation to reflect recovery behavior.
Review comments at @src/messaging/remote-files.ts:
- Around line 38-48: Update `createRemoteDirectory` to validate the
configuration-home parent with the trusted-ancestor check, allowing an existing
mode-0755 home, while retaining strict private-directory validation for
`messaging-remote`. Add an optional privacy setting to `checkRemoteDirectory`
and use it only for the parent check; keep the default strict behavior for the
remote state directory.
Review comments at @src/messaging/remote-owner.ts:
- Line 110: Update the `tunnels.exited` handler in the remote owner to retire
the owner when a published tunnel pair exits: after conditionally removing the
matching route, call `abort()` when `stopping` is false. Preserve the existing
route identity check so an obsolete tunnel cannot remove a replacement route,
and ensure owner retirement settles `finished` for the CLI.
- Around line 66-68: In the lease registration path, update the conflict check
after the successful `probe` so an authenticated lease from the same
`peer.machine.id` can replace an unexpired route with a different `generation`.
Keep rejecting routes with active `tunnels`, then store the new lease in
`routes`.
Review comments at @src/messaging/remote-ports.ts:
- Around line 21-22: Update the listener-table loop that opens `/proc/net/tcp`
and `/proc/net/tcp6` to treat `ENOENT` for `/proc/net/tcp6` as an empty table
and continue. For all other open failures, preserve fail-closed behavior by
throwing `remoteError` with the existing port-inspection error details.

Scoped follow-up at 1154aff after the f5e91fe corrections: I ran Bun 1.4.0 test --no-env-file --isolate ./tests/codex-integration/messaging-remote-process.test.ts --timeout 10000 on the unchanged production head: 15 pass, 0 fail, 96 assertions.
The existing synthetic process seam exercises stdout overflow and aggregate exhaustion, large discarded stderr, first-failure preservation, stdin failures, TERM/KILL cancellation, leader exit with retained pipes, natural EOF, and persistent/transient helper accounting. Successful cleanup returns the capture failure and releases capacity; genuinely incomplete cleanup still returns cleanup_incomplete with the capture failure as its cause and retains capacity. The latter is important evidence, not an error to hide merely to match the overflow code.
Execution was globally serial with new private homes, CPUQuota=75%, MemoryHigh=1280M, MemoryMax=1536M, swap disabled, TasksMax=64 and a 60-second unit ceiling. Protected user configuration remained unchanged. The Darwin inspection branch uses a fake process/lsof result on Linux; it does not qualify real macOS behavior. No SSH daemon, live native Codex/provider/account, security/privacy scan, or author-branch change was used.
I also read the current enrollment journal and file/directory-sync changes plus their regressions. Store/enrollment execution was deferred while another build was active, so I am not adopting the author's broader 320-test receipt as my own. Current exact-head hosted workflows remain action_required. This is focused process-lifecycle evidence, not whole-PR approval, sponsorship or an independent credential-boundary sign-off; the Draft/full-suite/macOS coverage limits remain.

@Ingwannu — follow-up pushed at Current-head validation: 486 passed / 6 skipped / zero failed across messaging and shared-link consumers, plus the generated-key real-SSH round trip with HashKnownHosts=yes and typecheck/privacy/structure/surface/docs checks. Verification now records the exact head and commands. The 180-second changed-graph run remains incomplete/nonpassing. Its five failure-bearing files yield 218 passed / 3 failed in isolation; the same three persistent GUI pairing/Bun-provenance failures reproduce on unmodified upstream dev (37 passed / 3 failed). This is comparative evidence, not an environment-only or whole-suite pass claim. Full-suite/macOS and hosted CI remain outstanding. No sponsorship, whole-PR approval or independent credential-boundary sign-off is inferred; the PR stays draft. |

Scoped follow-up at current head 33df9692dd4aae903732e94dbc67ab4ab31727d1 (base dev 9b6f4b2632492b3df637dccc009d6a01ed47c85d).
The hashing correction is present in the shared src/link/ssh-argv.ts common options, and the shared argv assertion now checks HashKnownHosts=no. I also checked the new revocation delta: the scratch path is transaction-and-attempt-qualified, preparation is inside the receipt-preserving try/catch, and removal is attempted in finally. The new cases explicitly cover overlapping removals and preparation failures before/after publication. These are source checks, not independently executed SSH or fault-injection results.
remote-process.ts and its 15-case test file are byte-identical to the prior 1154affa5 checkpoint. My earlier 15-pass/96-assertion receipt remains scoped historical evidence; I am not relabeling it as a current-head whole-PR run.
Current-head target/hygiene jobs now complete successfully. Cross-platform CI 38105245986, Catalog contracts 38105245972, and React Doctor 38105245952 are still action_required. The issue has only the enhancement label, not maintainer-sponsored. Successful mechanical gates and the author's 486-case receipt do not supply my independent boundary signoff, full-suite/macOS qualification, or approval.
Local store/enrollment/shared-argv execution remains deferred because foreign Cargo/clippy/rustc builds are live. No SSH/native daemon/provider call, scan, branch change, sponsorship or approval was performed.
Independent local verification update — 2026-10-11
The previously deferred store/enrollment scope now ran at unchanged current production head 33df9692dd4aae903732e94dbc67ab4ab31727d1, together with the affected shared SSH argument tests:
bun test --no-env-file --isolate ./tests/codex-integration/messaging-remote-store.test.ts ./tests/codex-integration/messaging-remote-enrollment.test.ts ./tests/clients/link-ssh-argv.test.ts --timeout 10000
Bun1.4.0/Linux: 60 passed / 1 skipped / 0 failed / 392 assertions, across3 files, 5.87 seconds. The skipped case is PowerShell parsing and supplies no Windows qualification. The measured cases include file/directory sync ordering and uncertain-durability receipts, overlapping revocation scratch ownership/cleanup, preparation failure before/after publication, enrollment/revocation interleavings, and shared argv assertions for HashKnownHosts. CLI fault injection runs disposable child Bun processes; SSH runners and native RPC peers are synthetic. Local shell-prelude stubs are not real SSH/native agents. No real SSH, daemon enrollment, installed agent or provider call was used.
Execution was serial after prior owned test units terminated, with new private homes, effective CPU75%/memoryHigh1280MiB/max1536MiB/swap0/tasks64/nice10 and a finite120-second ceiling. IOWeight20 is configured but the user's cgroup has no delegated io controller; no effective I/O-weight claim. Protected user configuration remains unchanged. Production worktree is clean. This is a current-head three-file receipt, not a rerun/relabeling of the older 15-case process receipt, a full52-file review, macOS/real-SSH/native interoperability, root typecheck, full-suite or independent boundary signoff. Draft/CI/sponsorship holds remain; no approval or scan.

Scoped follow-up at current head 70822541db44df1c49add7600e9953dc4387b975 (trusted dev/base 9b6f4b2632492b3df637dccc009d6a01ed47c85d).
I inspected the five-file delta from 33df9692: enrollment retries now reuse parseEnrollmentJournal from the recovery reader. The interpretation catch covers malformed JSON, outer/nested records and invalid field values, while safe reads and lock acquisition remain outside it. Returning the parsed record preserves property order for existing exact transaction-ownership checks. The CLI and structure documentation describe preserved bytes, explicit recovery, separate storage/lock errors and the preliminary host-key probe accurately.
Independent Bun1.4.0/Linux execution on this exact head: bun test --no-env-file --isolate ./tests/codex-integration/messaging-remote-enrollment.test.ts --timeout 10000 — 43 pass / 0 fail / 277 assertions, complete file, 8.59 seconds. This includes all 12 newly added cases: five malformed-journal interpretations and five corresponding CLI diagnostics, plus unsafe-file and busy-lock classifications. The fixtures assert original journal bytes and local/remote state remain unchanged and no enrollment control exchange occurs. SSH/key probing is injected, native RPC peers are disposable Unix fixtures, and CLI children use the same isolated Bun; no real SSH, native daemon or account enrollment was executed.
Execution setup correction: my first attempt placed fresh homes/TMPDIR beneath a group-writable .tmp ancestor. The existing private-storage guard correctly refused that path before the intended journal assertions; I stopped only my isolated unit. I did not change shared-directory permissions or production code. A single corrected run used new mode700 roots under /tmp, retaining all hard caps and assertions, and produced the complete result above. No interrupted result is counted as passing.
Effective limits: serial CPU75%, memoryHigh1280MiB/max1536MiB, swap0, tasks64, nice10, finite120-second ceiling. IOWeight20 is configured but io is not delegated; no effective I/O-weight claim. Protected user configuration is unchanged and the exact-head worktree is clean.
This verifies the journal-diagnostic correction only. The prior 60-pass/one-skip three-file receipt belongs to 33df9692, not this whole new head. Current target/hygiene jobs pass, while Cross-platform38106635563, Catalog38106635581 and React Doctor38106635577 remain action_required. The author's changed-graph run remains incomplete/nonpassing. No independent full-PR/boundary signoff, new typecheck/full-suite/macOS/real-SSH validation, sponsorship, scan, workflow authorization or approval is claimed; Draft remains appropriate.

Rebase follow-up checked against current trusted dev Please preserve both rosters in that golden file and ensure it agrees with |
- Added an opt-in foreground owner, private directional enrollment and authenticated same-connection queued delivery with return leases. - Reused shared SSH policy without activating messaging during normal proxy startup or changing local Unix-only defaults. - Added isolated lifecycle, recovery, transport and native-contract regressions with public CLI and ownership documentation. - Qualified isolated loopback SSH and stock Codex 0.160.1; integrated suite and independent security review are being completed before review readiness.
- Join both owned helpers before propagating startup configuration changes or cleanup failures. - Bound native qualification fixture requests by their cancellation budget and keep test registrations within the existing layout size cap. - Passed typecheck and six corrected lifecycle regressions; independent delta review found no new security issue. Final rebased integration qualification remains separate.
- Refresh the individual-peer contribution baseline and completed preparation sequence. - Record the full-suite resource exception without claiming a passing run or relaxing gates. - Preserve hosted CI, macOS interoperability and maintainer acceptance as separate outstanding requirements. - Verified range-diff equivalence, typecheck, privacy, ownership, generated surfaces and 259 focused regressions after rebase.
- Assert the stock daemon pre-history state before submitting a fixture message. - Poll only exact known read-only history errors within the existing deadline; keep queue submission outside the polling loop and sanitize other errors. - Verified the isolated stock 0.160.1 gateway queue, completed synthetic turn, correlated reply and owned cleanup: one pass, six assertions. - Independent fixture-delta review found no concern; no production behavior changed.
- Bind enrollment completion and recovery cleanup to the current transaction under one store lock; invalidate recovery before publishing revocation. - Revalidate source authority before remote submission without retiring unrelated peers or replaying unknown outcomes. - Retain withdrawn tunnel cleanup joins and bound logical helper settlement while charging unresolved physical children. - Reserve eight persistent and two transient helper slots; cover Darwin listener polling with isolated fixtures. - Verified 283 focused tests, real loopback SSH and stock Codex round trips, typecheck, privacy, structure, surface and docs checks; broader changed-test qualification remains incomplete.
- Record the latest dev base and unchanged five-patch rebase for the remote messaging contribution. - Update the handover publication boundary to reflect user authorization while keeping deployment separate. - Revalidated 283 focused tests, isolated SSH and stock Codex round trips, typecheck, privacy, structure, surface and docs build; broad changed-test selection remains incomplete at its documented ceiling.
- Add exact-transaction enrollment abandonment with explicit unconfirmed remote cleanup and correlated receiver-capacity refusal. - Accept trusted configuration parents while keeping messaging storage private; tolerate only a missing Linux IPv6 listener table. - Fence return-lease replacement against live generations and retire unexpected tunnel loss after joined cleanup. - Synchronize CLI metadata, generated references and architecture/user documentation. - Validate with 294 passing focused regressions, six skipped cases, typecheck, privacy, structure, surface checks and the 569-page docs build.
- Guard receipt-driven cleanup by the exact enrollment transaction under the mutation lock so old receipts cannot revoke replacement peers. - Renew return leases within the shared startup deadline before readiness, and join helper exit with natural pipe EOF without signalling historical process groups. - Add stale-receipt, slow-startup, renewal-failure and descendant-pipe regressions; synchronize CLI references and lifetime documentation. - Verified 302 focused tests, typecheck, privacy, structure, generated surfaces, the docs build and disposable SSH enrollment/duplex delivery; broader suite and macOS qualification remain outstanding.
- Keep malformed recovery journals from blocking peer revocation while preserving matching-journal invalidation safeguards. - Sync published and removed journal entries before dependent work; report uncertain crash durability explicitly. - Drain discarded helper output to natural EOF, preserve first failures, and retain incomplete-cleanup evidence and capacity. - Add regression and fault-injection coverage; update storage, cleanup and CLI documentation. - Verified 318 focused tests, typecheck, privacy, structure, surface and docs build; the 180-second changed-graph run remains incomplete.
- Regenerate the operating surface from the merged registry so both Remote Link and messaging capabilities are counted. - Preserve upstream prompt ownership and the separate messaging contract during rebase. - Verified generated-surface and structure checks; rebased regression qualification is in progress.
- Preserve alias-prefixed private host-key records despite HashKnownHosts user defaults, without changing pinned trust policy or normal known_hosts files. - Isolate each revocation attempt and report committed local removal even when preparing or sending remote cleanup fails; remove owned scratch files in finally. - Complete the structure source map, regenerate its index, and update messaging and Remote Link documentation. - Added five targeted regressions: all failed against the old implementation and pass after the fix; the disposable SSH fixture now enables HashKnownHosts.
- Share strict journal interpretation between enrollment retries and recovery metadata reads, preserving original evidence and storage/lock errors. - Cover malformed JSON, outer/nested records and invalid capabilities at the enrollment and CLI boundaries; document explicit operator recovery. - Verify 43 enrollment tests and strict typecheck; broader messaging and documentation qualification follows before publication.

Scoped refresh at 3e5925609e6273380a089aedd4ff9ea49cc4c2f3.
Compared to my previous enrollment checkpoint70822541d, the remote messaging implementation and remote fixture files are unchanged. The shared SSH prelude changed through upstream integration: Desktop binary candidates precede PATH, candidates must pass --version, and unsupported remote platforms have a distinct125 status. My historical 43-pass/277-assertion enrollment receipt is not rebranded as current whole-PR or shared-prelude execution.
Current dev is3bb7a5612c and this head is 24 commits behind. The older golden/layout conflict is not a current conflict claim; latest target/hygiene successes do not replace fresh shared-SSH consumer coverage or executable CI. Cross-platform38303199450 remains action_required, independent gateway/enrollment boundary acceptance and macOS/native interoperability remain open. Please refresh the branch and head-bound readiness receipt before integration. No local tests were launched while foreign Cargo builds are active; no real SSH/native endpoint, scan, sponsorship, workflow authorization, approval or merge was performed.

No deployment or local integration branch change is included.08cbb2147433c1dec7ecbda5a74ae85fcb87dedbon base8d12a3cb0c9ead696e1179fc9558aa79d894021f: wider messaging/shared-link/CLI/management/guard lane 547 passed / 6 skipped / 0 failed, 5,632 assertions across 38 files. Disposable generated-key real-SSH duplex check: 1 passed / 0 failed, 10 assertions. Messaging and SSH sources are byte-identical at the final head; these remain explicitly intermediate-head receipts, not rerun final-head interoperability evidence.timeout --signal=TERM --kill-after=15s 180s bun run test:changedselected 1,071/2,245 files and ended incomplete/nonpassing (outer exit 124; wrapper 143). It emitted 18 failure entries involving GUI pairing, Bun PATH provenance, catalog drift healing and catalog picker convergence before termination; there is no final suite-count receipt. No fresh base comparison was performed for these failures, so they are not classified as unrelated/environment-only. This broad lane also is not a final-head pass.Final-head commands (all completed successfully):
The first scoped regression attempt was blocked by the sandbox's socket-listen restrictions and failed; the same broader lane completed successfully with escalation using disposable fixtures. No live daemon or enrolled production peer was used. CodeRabbit's existing threads are resolved and its last review had no actionable comments, but automatic reviews are paused. Readiness must be freshly assessed against the new head.

70822541db44df1c49add7600e9953dc4387b975onfeat/codex-remote-contribution, based on upstreamdev9b6f4b2632492b3df637dccc009d6a01ed47c85d(zero commits behind at publication preflight). Fetch/rebase confirmed the branch was already up to date. The latest correction shares strict local-journal interpretation between enrollment retries and recovery: malformed JSON/outer/nested records and invalid values produceinvalid_enrollment_journal, preserve original bytes and send no enrollment control request. Safe storage reads and lock failures retain their own classifications. The deployed experiment is unchanged.33df9692d, not rerun wholesale for this journal-only correction: messaging regressions, shared Remote Link SSH consumers, CLI/management routes and explicit source-oracle/layout/size/ownership/surface/runner guards: 486 passed, 6 skipped, zero failed; 5,342 assertions across 36 files, 92.08 seconds. Opt-in SSH/native fixtures run separately; Windows-specific cases remain skipped on Linux.HashKnownHosts=yesin the isolated SSH configuration: 1 passed, 10 assertions, 5.98 seconds in a disposable generated-key fixture. Native endpoints are offline Unix fixtures, not live agents or deployed nodes. No user known_hosts file, SSH configuration, credential or service was changed.timeout --signal=TERM --kill-after=15s 180s bun run test:changedselected 1,061 of 2,233 files (53 changed files) and reached the explicit ceiling (outer exit 124; wrapper exit 143), without a final suite-count receipt. It reported two GUI pairing local-intent failures and the Bun PATH-provenance selection failure. These match the three failures previously reproduced on the unmodified base; that historical comparison does not make this incomplete run passing.timeout --signal=TERM --kill-after=15s 180s bun run test:changedselected 1,061 of 2,233 files and reached its explicit ceiling (outer exit 124, wrapper exit 143), with no final suite-count receipt. Local validation does not replace that acceptance or required exact-head hosted CI. The PR remains draft with all four review-readiness boxes unchecked.

This PR stays in draft until every box below is ticked. Tick all four boxes once the requirements are met:
Required local validation passed; commands, results, and any full-suite exception are documented.
I pushed my PR to a recent dev commit (at most 10 behind; a maintainer may still ask for the exact tip before merge).
I resolved all correct Codex and CodeRabbit findings.
My PR is ready for review.
Opened in draft. Required exact-head hosted CI, PR bot reviews and maintainer acceptance remain outstanding.
