feat(claude): list opencodex models in the Claude Code CLI first-party /model picker - #6418
Conversation
…y /model picker With claudeCode.cliFirstParty on, a plain `claude` now lists routed models in /model. The intercept listener merges rows into the CLI's served catalog (GET /api/organizations/<org>/model_selector/cc, cc surface) and the fallback /api/claude_cli/bootstrap additional_model_options, only for CLI-classified clients with CLI first-party on, failing open on any error. Rows use Desktop 3P registry aliases (the CLI offers only Claude-shaped ids) and only ones the registry decodes; a shared deduped registry build serves startup and the CLI picker. Claude Code's cached *-cc.json catalog is dropped when the settings env is written and on every successful first-party reconcile. CLI requests using a registry alias keep the Code usage surface instead of being counted as Claude Desktop.

It connects snapshot generation, catalog response rewriting, and cache invalidation to the intercept listener. It also updates registry startup, request classification, integration tests, invariants, and documentation. ChangesClaude Code CLI picker

Await the shared registry build before re-checking a persisted snapshot after a restart, re-check each row against the route it was minted for, stream the catalog body under the 16 MiB cap instead of buffering it, and stop on-demand registry retries for 30 s after a failed or empty build.

Summary
With Claude Code CLI first-party mode on (
claudeCode.cliFirstParty), a plainclaudeused to list only Anthropic models in/model. Claude Desktop's picker mode already showed opencodex routes, but the CLI had no equivalent. After this change, a newclaudesession lists routed models such as "Xai/grok 4.7 (hub)", each described asopencodex · <route>. Picking one routes that session through OpenCodex. How it works:
claudebuilds/modelfromGET api.anthropic.com/api/organizations/<org>/model_selector/cc. Older or flag-off sessions use theadditional_model_optionsfield ofGET /api/claude_cli/bootstrapinstead. Both already pass through the intercept TLS listener. A newcliCataloghook (src/claude/intercept/cli-catalog.ts) merges opencodex rows into theccsurface only, and into the bootstrap fallback. Desktop'sccd/codesurfaces are untouched.cccatalog is rewritten only for a CLI-classified User-Agent (claude-cli/<v> (external, cli)) with CLI first-party on. Claude Code caches that catalog on disk for every process, so a Desktop-spawned process must not seed rows a plainclaudecannot route. The bootstrap request has no entrypoint in its User-Agent, so it follows CLI intent alone. Any failure (non-2xx, oversize, unparsable, nothing added, or a provider error) relays the upstream bytes unchanged.ocx-claude-*rows rendering "Update Claude Code to use this model", whileclaude-opus-4-8-<date|pXXX|hash>[1m]rows were selectable.buildCliPickerModelstherefore uses Desktop 3P registry aliases, and only ones the registry decodes back to the same route. A newsrc/claude/desktop-3p-startup.tsgives startup and the CLI picker one deduplicated registry build, so aclaudelaunched right after OpenCodex starts still gets decodable rows.src/claude/intercept/cli-picker.tsbuilds the list lazily (cold wait 2.5 s) and persists the snapshot.<claudeConfigDir>/cache/model-catalog/*-cc.jsonfor about an hour. Those files are dropped whenever the intercept settings env is written, and on every successfulreconcileClaudeFirstPartySettings(the toggle andocx ensure). Desktop's*-ccd.jsonis left alone.src/server/claude-messages.tsused to count any registry alias as Claude Desktop traffic. A CLI-classified request using one now stays on the Code surface and no longer marks Desktop as active.Docs:

These address the Codex and CodeRabbit findings. A restart now awaits the registry before re-checking a persisted snapshot. Rows are re-checked against their recorded route.
