Summary

  • Stabilize the Windows catalog-restore filesystem tests by calling the real public restore API in the existing Bun test process with unique, saved/restored homes. Each previous bun --eval child discarded the process identity caches and repeated Windows SID, LocalAppData, and ACL subprocess setup inside a 15-second case deadline. Run 36642804429 (attempt 2), Windows 2/9, killed that child at 15020.53 ms. The exact stalled child phase was not recorded because the old helper discards stderr; catalog lock waiting is ruled out by its zero busy timeout.

  • Preserve every catalog-content assertion and the existing restore-case timeouts. Give fixture setup a 65-second budget: two bounded 30-second Windows identity lookups plus five seconds for filesystem work, instead of bare Bun's five-second hook default. Await ACL child reaps before fixture removal, remove the fixture's catalog serialization database, and restore both environment variables in a finally block. Journal ownership, catalog-sync, and picker process-replacement tests retain their separate processes.

  • Fix the second Windows flake exposed by the full dispatch: picker recovery probed one ephemeral port, released it, then assumed its unreserved neighbour was free. Occupying that neighbour reproduced the exact inactive-picker result with EADDRINUSE. Reuse the existing startProxy seam to bind real CONNECT proxies directly on port 0 until teardown, assert logical adjacent-port requests separately, and keep the logical picker port occupied as a permanent regression condition.

  • Reduce Log Guard fixture I/O exposed by an intermediate Windows 5/9 timeout: seed the same 220 8-KiB rows in one transaction, preserving WAL mode, deletion, checkpoint, and every reclamation assertion. The injected SQLITE_BUSY throws before SQLite executes and cannot itself wait on a lock. The old log has no phase trace, so the exact 80-second stall remains unattributed; this change removes 219 incidental commit boundaries without changing the fixture's committed state.

Verification

  • Baseline: bun test --isolate tests/codex-integration/codex-catalog-restore.test.ts — 11 pass; affected case 225.10 ms on macOS.
  • bun test --isolate tests/codex-integration/codex-catalog-restore.test.ts tests/codex-integration/codex-app-server-path-spaces.test.ts tests/codex-integration/codex-catalog-writer.test.ts tests/codex-integration/codex-filesystem-evidence.test.ts tests/codex-integration/codex-inject-retained-table.test.ts tests/codex-integration/codex-log-guard-coderabbit.test.ts — 47 pass, 0 fail; affected case 2.88 ms (47 pass again after the hook budget correction). This recreates the six-file batch that failed on Windows.
  • bun run typecheck — pass.
  • bun test tests/ci-workflows/file-size-ratchet.test.ts tests/test-layout.test.ts tests/test-layout-tooling.test.ts — 27 pass, 0 fail. No new test file or layout entry is needed.
  • Mutation check: replacing the first restore call with a no-op result made the original routed-entry assertion fail; restoring it passed (1 pass, 0 fail).
  • bun run privacy:scan, bun run structure:check, and git diff --check — pass.
  • bun test --isolate tests/claude-integration/claude-picker-recovery.test.ts tests/claude-integration/claude-desktop-picker-routes.test.ts — 12 pass, 0 fail, including process replacement while the logical picker port is occupied. Mutation: restoring fixed-port binding fails the original active-picker assertion; kernel allocation passes.
  • Windows diagnostic evidence: dispatch 36657288733, attempt 1 at initial head c6eee457c5, Windows 2/9 passed; the original affected case took 287.43 ms and all restore cases passed. That run also exposed the independent picker-port failure, subsequently fixed here; it is not final-head evidence.
  • bun test --isolate tests/codex-integration/codex-log-guard-maintenance-coderabbit.test.ts tests/codex-integration/codex-log-guard-maintenance.test.ts tests/codex-integration/codex-catalog-restore.test.ts — 32 pass, 0 fail after the final changes, including thrown-busy partial success in 26.55 ms. Typecheck, privacy, and 27 layout/ratchet tests pass again.
  • Fixture benchmark: autocommit 15.8–21.6 ms versus transaction 10.4–11.4 ms on macOS; both yield exactly 20 surviving rows and 424 freelist pages. These timings do not substitute for native Windows CI.
  • Final-head Windows evidence at 852a6069d4, dispatch 36660008300: Windows 2/9 passed (original catalog case 277.68 ms), Windows 3/9 passed (picker replacement 3050.57 ms), Windows 5/9 passed (thrown-busy partial success 192.33 ms). Dispatch completed successfully (attempt 1): all nine Windows shards, four Linux shards, macOS control, desktop build, and aggregate ci are green. Privacy gate was conditionally skipped; the local privacy scan passed.
  • Exact-head pull-request Cross-platform CI 36660009854, attempt 1 — success; all four Linux test shards and the aggregate ci completed successfully.
  • Independent read-only review of all test changes — no actionable findings.
  • Full local suite deferred under the AGENTS.md resource exception: these three test-only harness corrections were checked with the complete catalog batch, picker integration tests, and Log Guard maintenance regressions while other release lanes share this host. The full suite and native Windows behavior remain for exact-head Cross-platform CI; a workflow_dispatch with lane=all will explicitly request all nine Windows shards before merge.

Checklist

  • Scope stays focused and avoids unrelated cleanup.
  • Docs or release notes were updated when needed (test harness only; public behavior is unchanged).
  • Security-sensitive changes were reviewed for secrets, auth, and unsafe defaults (production security code and workflows are unchanged; real locking and ACL writes remain exercised).

📝 Walkthrough

Walkthrough

The Codex restore tests now call restoreCodexCatalog() in-process and clean up their temporary environment and database files. The Claude picker recovery tests start real proxy listeners on kernel-assigned ports and check requested and actual port values. A Codex log-guard fixture now groups its inserts in one transaction.

Changes

Codex Catalog Restore Tests

Layer / File(s) Summary
Test environment and cleanup
tests/codex-integration/codex-catalog-restore.test.ts
The tests preserve and set home-directory environment values, resolve the serialization database path, and clean up ACL reaps, database files, sidecars, and temporary directories.
In-process restore assertions
tests/codex-integration/codex-catalog-restore.test.ts
The restore cases call restoreCodexCatalog() directly and check returned results instead of subprocess status and output.

Claude Picker Recovery Tests

Layer / File(s) Summary
Proxy port recovery assertions
tests/claude-integration/claude-picker-recovery.test.ts
The replacement child starts real connect proxies on kernel-assigned ports and records requested ports. The tests check the configured port and its successor, validate the actual bound ports, and use a fixed requested port in the live-owner test.

Codex Log Guard Fixture

Layer / File(s) Summary
Transactional fixture inserts

The restore cases still check their results, but no longer exercise first-use initialization in a fresh process. This does not establish a production failure, though a cold-process regression could go undetected; the change is mergeable with that bounded test follow-up.

라인 beforeEach(60_000) - 훅 예산을 올린 판단은 타당합니다.

Windows Cross-platform CI(특히 예전에 죽던 shard)가 이 head(8984ae8)에서 실제로 안정적인지 보고 머지할지.

📐 Maintainability & Code Quality | 🔵 Trivial | ⚡ Quick win

Retain one fresh-process restore case.

The previous tests launched restoreCodexCatalog() through process.execPath, so the restore loaded with a fresh module and identity cache. The current beforeEach resolves the identity and catalog database path before every test, then calls restoreCodexCatalog() in the warmed test process. The restore assertions still cover catalog results, but they no longer detect a cold-process identity or serialization initialization regression. Keep one simple restore case in a child process and leave the remaining cases in-process.
