"Failed to connect to lockdownd service on the device" after upgrading to iOS 18.3

After upgrading my iPhone to iOS 18.3, ifuse now gives the error:

Failed to connect to lockdownd service on the device.
Try again. If it still fails try rebooting your device.

The problem persists after rebooting the phone.

This is with ifuse 1.1.4 on Fedora 41, with ifuse installed from the Fedora repositories using dnf. Phone is an iPhone SE 3rd generation (model number MMXC3LL/A).

No, ideviceinfo exits with an error:

$ ideviceinfo
ERROR: Could not connect to lockdownd: SSL error (-5)

Run idevicepair unpair and then idevicepair pair, then try ideviceinfo again.

I'm having the same issue on iPadOS 18.3, but this also happened on 17.5.1 prior to updating.

It's an iPad (8th generation) model number MYLD2NF/A.

Run idevicepair unpair and then idevicepair pair, then try ideviceinfo again.

$ idevicepair unpair
ERROR: Device 00008110-001024140147801E is not paired with this host
$ idevicepair pair
ERROR: Device 00008110-001024140147801E returned unhandled error code -5

I tried idevicepair pair several times, both before and after the device prompted for authentication to connect to the computer, but I got the same error -5 each time.

Can you make sure to use the latest code? @bjornpijnacker for example you definitely have an older build of libimobiledevice that is being used. I am suspecting the same for @jhaiduce.

Started down the path of building libimobiledevice from source, but it needs newer versions of various dependencies than what Fedora 41 ships. Is there an easier/simpler way?

So it looks like this was caused by tightened crypto policies in Fedora 41; I was able to pair to the phone and mount with ifuse (without upgrading to a newer version of ifuse or libimobiledevice) after running sudo update-crypto-policies --set FEDORA40 (see https://discussion.fedoraproject.org/t/fedora-41-beta-idevice-document-mounting-in-files-not-working/131836/9)

Thanks for getting to the root cause, @jhaiduce. Setting crypto policies to 'Fedora 40' worked!
It requires reboot and bang!
ifuse works.
