Clicking Check for Updates in the local macOS desktop app only looked for packages that already existed. To get a newer checkpoint, you had to wait for the next scheduled run or start one yourself.
A manual check now asks the configured checkpoint service for a new run and still finds any release or package that is already installable. When the newest build is installed but a checkpoint has been requested, the app says “Checkpoint requested. Check again later to pick up the result.” Background, startup, and remote checks stay passive. An active interval run finishes, then processes queued requests. A missing service falls back to the usual check.
Build and install diagnostics and retry remain available, including when the checkpoint request fails. Check errors are reported separately from the update already ready to build or install. A verified package that finishes elsewhere replaces a failed local build. The desktop app and service command share the request helper, including the scheduler marker and managed installation.
The promotion tool descriptions and integration test also follow upstream’s explicit thread targeting. Focused desktop, web, wrapper, installer, service, and MCP integration tests pass. Astra High completed five review rounds; all findings were fixed and the final round was clean. Browser checks covered Settings and both sidebar modes using isolated data and a stub Electron bridge; native service behavior is covered by injected tests.
Implemented with GPT-6.1-Sol in Codex; reviewed with GPT-6-Astra High; PR text by Claude Opus 5.5 in Claude Code.
