Station abbreviations not searchable (e.g., "Berlin Hbf" doesn't find "Berlin Hauptbahnhof"

Problem:
Photon doesn't find train stations when searching by their common abbreviations, even when those abbreviations exist in OSM's short_name field.

Example:

• OSM node: Berlin Hbf
• OSM name field: "Berlin Hauptbahnhof"
• OSM short_name field: "Berlin Hbf"
• Photon search: q=Berlin Hbf
  Returns unrelated results

Expected behavior:
Searching for "Berlin Hbf" should return the station, since this abbreviation is stored in the short_name field.

Question:
Does Photon index the short_name field? If not, could this be added to improve discoverability of stations commonly referred to by abbreviations (Hbf, Gare, etc.)?

Photon doesn't index short_name, see also #934 for that.

Terms like 'Hauptbahnhof' should get an automatic abbreviation at some time, similar to what Nominatim does (and possibly using the abbreviation configuration from Nominatim directly). In the meantime, when you run your own instance, you can set up synonyms to make 'hbf' searchable.
