Cleaning up wherever possible to get the test pipeline a little faster: speeds up tests in
pkg/agent/flags(8.1 to 1.7 seconds),pkg/make(12.5 to 6.8 seconds),pkg/traces/exporter(9.1 to 4.6 seconds). Makes an autoupdate test a little bit less flaky.
