Free tier for open-source maintainers #45

Description

@kasuken

Problem

Maintainers of popular public repositories are the highest-leverage users on GitHub. They have the exact problem Needly solves at the highest intensity, they have an audience, and they talk publicly about the tools they use.

They will not pay per seat, and they should not be asked to.

Scope

  • Free forever for public repositories, with no seat limit and no feature gating on the core Inbox
  • Maintainer-specific capability on top:
    • First-time contributor detection, so a new contributor's first pull request is never the one that rots
    • Stale pull request and stale issue triage queues
    • Contributor-waiting-on-maintainer view, distinct from maintainer-waiting-on-contributor
    • Bulk triage tuned for high-volume inbound work

Acceptance criteria

  • Public-repository-only installations are automatically on the free tier with no action required
  • Mixed public and private installations are billed only for the private portion
  • First-time contributor detection uses contribution history for the repository
  • Stale thresholds are configurable per repository
  • The free tier is stated plainly on the marketing page, not buried in pricing
  • No "powered by" injection into anybody's repository as a condition of the free tier

Notes

Pricing direction in docs/productidea.md section 20 is per organisation rather than per seat, which makes this tier cheap to offer and consistent with the rest of the model.
