Missing apps

I'm just getting my feet wet in the Nextcloud ecosystem, but while using your nextcloud-docker-dev environment I realized that with latest Nextcloud (v18), the following apps had to be installed manually in order to get the env working:

• text
• viewer

Both apps are not available via app store (probably because they became part of the Nextcloud core apps to be distributed with the release tarball??) so I had to clone them manually.

Without installing these apps, I got plenty of errors. E.g. when running occ upgrade:

UnexpectedValueException: The files of the app "viewer" were not correctly replaced before running the update
Update failed

Please excuse the noise and feel free to close + ignore this bugreport if it's nonsense. It's very likely that I simply didn't get the picture yet 😉

Hi,

in general Nextcloud should run fine without those apps, but if you install them, make sure to install from git and you have the proper compatible release branch checked out. For 18 this would be the stable18 branch. The main issue here is that apps that are part of the release bundle but have extra repos are only compatible to the current development version on the master branch. See the appinfo/info.xml file and check for max-version in the affected apps.

As you probably also want to look into server development, I would probably recommend to also install the server code from git. That way you can run both server and apps on the master branch and don't run into issues if the code on master already diverged from the stable branches.

Hm, I just gave this a quick test run and other than I expected, it is actually requiring viewer, not sure when that changed. Running nextcloud without viewer works fine but it seems that there is a bug when the nextcloud version changes it is requiring the app in order to run the upgrade.

Ok, nextcloud/server#18334 made viewer always enabled which causes that, not sure yet how to fix that properly in the server, as I think we still should allow running the server without for development purposes.

Thanks for tracking this down, @juliushaertl! So at least I spotted a real issue here 😉

I already run the server code from git and now checked out the viewer app from git as well 😊
