This removes a chance to panic but I'm not sure it preserves the correct application logic for the routine

This actually seems to work but failed because of a provisioning error on the Mac side ; guess MacOS servers are at a premium. |

This gets rid of the panic but I'm not sure the case
where it's a non-object is covered at all.
