Getting started for students

Jörn Zaefferer edited this page Mar 3, 2015 · 1 revision

If you're a student interested in our projects, read this!

First, you should take a look at our Contributing site. It documents the various way you can contribute to our projects. Since contributing to websites and documentation uses the same process as contributing to our code projects, reading about it once will help for many different contributions.

Up next, find a project you're interested in and try to contribute a small fix. Usually the low hanging fruit is fixing documentation, so look for that. We have repositories for our websites named after the domains, so the repo for jqueryui.com has exactly that name, jquery/jqueryui.com.

Mentors aren't around 24 hours a day, so when you try to contact someone on IRC (right place!), use the public channels instead of private messages, that way other mentors can respond, or can see your message later and respond then. You should mention what project you're interested in, that makes it easier to guide you to the right place.
