FasticFrame

A simple tool to create framed profile pictures for social media in support of a cause. This project is a fork of avatar-framer.

  • Dynamically generate a static site based off of configuration options and the number of frame images provided.
  • Just provide the images, a logo and your copy.
  • Runs entirely in the browser (no images are uploaded to a server) to minimize privacy concerns.

Installation

Before using FasticFrame, you must ensure that Node.js and Jekyll are installed on your system. Some of the commands below assume that you're using an Arch-based distro. To install, do the following:

  1. Install Node.js, npm, and its dependencies.
pacman -Syu nodejs npm
npm install
  1. Install Ruby and Jekyll.
pacman -Syu ruby
gem install jekyll bundler
bundle config set --local path 'vendor/bundle'
bundle install

Usage - Generate your site

  1. Add your frames to img/frames
  2. Add your preview images to img/previews
  3. Generate the site:
jekyll build
  1. Create styles and and minify assets:
npm run build

Image requirements

Frames

  • Frames should be 2000px x 2000px for maximum resolution.
  • Frames should be in png format to allow for transparency.
  • All the frames should be named frame-1, frame-2 etc.

Previews

  • Previews should be at least 400px x 400px and square.
  • Previews should be named preview-1, preview-2 etc. and match the frame numbering.

Run locally

jekyll serve

will start a server with your site at localhost:4000. See Jekyll docs for more information.
