I'm getting the error Type '"timestack"' is not assignable to type '"linear" | "logarithmic" | "category" | "time" | "timeseries" | undefined'. when trying to assign this type to any X scale.

Chart.js have some limitations in type support for the custom axes. I had no luck extending it's ScaleOptionsByType.

The simple workaround is explicitly narrowing the axis type:

const xscale: ScaleOptions<'timestack'> = {
    type: 'timestack',
    position: 'bottom', 
    timestack: {
      datetime: {
        ...
      }
}

const options: ChartOptions<'line'> = {
    responsive: true,
    maintainAspectRatio: false,
    scales: {
      x: xscale as any,
      ...
    }
}
