Quick questions about making templates

Hi all,

I have a quick question about making templates. I suspect the answer is somewhere here among the discussions, but I might not be searching for the right terms.

I have made a template that works. I use it for making my invoices for my independent contracting work as a teacher in France.

Like I said, it works. But, I just copied the default.latex template and modified it to my liking. Is that an ideal way to make a template? And, should I remove the parts of the default template that I don't need?

I try to keep my custom templates as close to the Pandoc standard templates as possible, as this simplifies updating my templates when Pandoc adds new features or improves stuff (which it does relatively frequently). I can just diff and apply as a new version comes. I leave lots of features in that I don't personally use, it does no harm IMO... Other templates like Eisvogel tend to do the same...
