have explicit distro installer logic?

...considering if we shouldn't at least for jbang run (not jbang bootstraps) have ability to fallback on downloading directly from the source?

That not a bad idea in and of itself. The only problem I can see is detecting that something is wrong so we can fall back to the alternative mechanism.

We can of course some heuristics, like saying "there's no Java 21? well that seems unlikely, let's assume Foojay is down". But I'm not sure how well that would work.
