In the web Im getting an error

@Patresko, many git commands (which the UI relies on), do not work on an empty git repo with no history.

For now, I would suggest making a simple commit on Github.com (i.e. create a readme file) and try the setup again. In the future I would recommend setting up your new GitHub repositories with an initial ReadMe file (github provides this option on repo setup)

@isc-tleavitt: Git does not allow commands like creating new branches on empty repos, so a repository needs to have at least one file or a commit for us to be able to create branches. We need to either guide users towards creating non-empty repos (And have Embedded Git not just fail and allows users an initial commit), or have Embedded Git automatically create a simple initial commit (i.e. a readme stating it was created with Embedded Git)

With #469 there is some functionality to automatically create an initial commit with the Embedded Git config JSON file when initializing a repo. Perhaps instead of a readme we could commit the settings file after cloning a repository if the repository is empty.
