Usage of persistence volume?

I'm testing imgproxy-helm chart, I configured the persistence by habits but… what's its usage? After a dozen of tests I don't see anything written in it and I see no option related to it.
Is it only to act like image source?

I was wondering about this too.

As far as I can see, imgproxy does not cache files locally. It's only meant as a proxy and relies on an external CDN for caching.

The persistent volume claim can be used if you want to serve local files using the local:// url: https://docs.imgproxy.net/serving_local_files

Yeah, it was added for exactly this reason following this request #49
