Send .ics with meeting announcement

Description

When an interim meeting is announced, people interested in the meeting rush to their calendars to check availability and make a note (not everyone has subscribed the interim meetings), making timezone mistakes and just generally wasting time.

Would be it be possible to shave off a minute of link finding by including the .ics right in the meeting announcement?
(A short instruction how to subscribe to the meeting calendar entries would also be useful, but a .ics in the mail would really help.)

We can look into this, but there's a tradeoff to be aware of. Anything sent to lists gets a substantial amplification. It already takes quite some time to drain the mail queue for messages sent to our larger lists - this will make that even longer (delaying other mail in the process).

We have other requests that ask that we stick the kitchen sink into the ics...

Right. This needs to be a minimal .ics with just one link to the landing page for the interim -- it doesn't need to be the kitchen sink (and that information also gets out of date too fast).

would including http links (both in ics: and webcal: form) in the announcement suffice? (As opposed to including the ics as an attachment)?

I think so (would need to see what happens in typical mail readers).
