Status 2026-09-12: PARTLY DONE (#497), and the remainder is blocked by Windows, not by us.

Done: the installer registers the virtual camera (and uninstall unregisters it,
BEFORE the payload delete, so a COM registration can't survive pointing at a
deleted DLL) and creates the recording folder.

NOT done, and cannot be done from this installer: WER LocalDumps. That key is
HKLM-only. Measured 2026-09-12 — an HKCU LocalDumps entry for a deliberately
crashing test exe (exit 0xC0000005) produced zero dumps, while the machine's
HKLM configuration produced two. A per-user installer writing that key would ship
a setting that does nothing, which is worse than not shipping it.

The remaining work is therefore an ELEVATED step (scripts/setup-crash-dumps.ps1
already exists), not a change to the NSIS script. Keeping this open for that.

Two traps the done half cost, both now in CLAUDE.md: never run an interactive
helper (regsvr32 without /s) from a silent installer — it hung a silent
install until the 180 s timeout on two invisible modal dialogs; and a UTF-8 BOM is
three literal characters to NSIS, so any manifest it reads must be written
    BOM-free.
