Embed preview of relevant graph in Alerts

It would be really cool if the webpage in the URL to the affected visualization in alerts had an opengraph image property so that webhook targets that support it could display an image of the visualization automatically. I’m pretty sure Slack and Discord both support this.

More generally it would be handy if you could permalink a chart, that way you could copy and paste a URL to the chart and display the visualization of it inline in these apps too.

Great idea @sgarfinkel, thanks for suggesting this!

One important concern up front is data exposure. Any approach that relies on OpenGraph images or publicly accessible URLs risks unintentionally exposing private chart or alert data outside the product, which we’d need to be very careful about.

That said, there are a couple of possible directions:

1. Since our pages aren’t currently server-side rendered, generating dynamic OpenGraph images would require fairly significant architectural changes.
2. Alternatively, we could expose a static OpenGraph image endpoint (for example,
   hyperdx.yourdomain.com/api/images/alerts/:alertId), though this would still raise the same privacy concerns unless access were tightly controlled.

Because of this, it may actually make more sense to focus on webhook-specific support, where we can send rendered images directly in the webhook payload and avoid public URLs entirely.

Curious to hear your thoughts, does that tradeoff make sense to you?

I think that would work. We use slack webhooks here and that supports image embeds.
