No data or control on 2020 Intel Macbook Air, Catalina #120

System

OS: Catalina 10.15.7 (19H512)
HW: MacBook Air (Retina, 13-inch, 2020); 1.2 GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i7; 16 GB 3733 MHz LPDDR4X
SW: SmcFanControl 2.6 (2016)

Problem

No fan readout, or any fan control (slider is fixed). This is with fresh install via brew install --cask smcfancontrol , and then checking for updates, and then rebooting.

The same issue with corrupt rpm value appears on a 2020 i7-8core iMac running the latest mac os version (Big Sur 11.2.3)
