macOS Monterey Transition

macOS Monterey 12.0 will be worked on for support with the EFI. When Monterey is released, do not immediately update otherwise you will have to reinstall and might have to wipe your disk to reinstall Big Sur. When this EFI fully supports macOS Monterey with no problems & can install, I will give instructions in how to install/upgrade to macOS Monterey, even backing up your disk. Once Monterey is released, it may take up to a month to be able to upgrade Monterey with the new update of EFI. Just be aware that when the new EFI released for Monterey is used, you may not be able to use Big Sur and earlier with the same EFI. The older EFI from before the new EFI for Monterey will be able to work no problem but it may not work properly. If you DIY the EFI yourself and the computer/disk/EFI goes bad, I am not responsible as you taken the EFI and modified it yourself. Some advice will be below & on how to upgrade your EFI & Monterey will be as a reply on this issue.

Advice:

1. Backup your disk using Time Machine. I recommend getting a External HDD/SSD or Time Capsule to back up your disk. If you have any other OS's including 'Windows' or 'Linux' is recommended to be backed up just in case it goes bad.
2. If you modify the EFI yourself, you will not get any help on how to modify it from me. You will be voiding the will of being able to fix it with my troubleshooting, just like a warranty. If you know what you are doing and need advice, I recommend having a USB/Disk with an EFI of the original you used.
3. Think about knowing what to do before upgrading like updating apps, checking compatibility, etc, would be great to make sure that you will need to either stay on Catalina/Big Sur for something you need until its updated and built for Monterey.

Extra Info:
Older EFIs before Monterey may be out of support from issues. I will only be updating those EFIs with possible fixes. I may not be able to test it standby due to me updating to Monterey by the time I get the new Monterey EFIs fixed. I recommend updating to Monterey when the new EFI is out, along with Monterey, to have the best support and compatibility.

I am going to be installing the latest Monterey beta on an external SSD to test with a new EFI and try to make it work with the existing EFI I've been using. I'll push out a release with a EFI that allows working Monterey functionality but some features like Bluetooth, WiFi, etc, may stop working properly. I'll send a update when I get Monterey to install & make the EFI work.

In a few hours, I'll push out a release of a development EFI. The only features not functioning is Intel Bluetooth & Intel Wi-Fi. Ethernet works no problem so if you have an ethernet cable and would like to try out Monterey with internet, use ethernet. I'll be attempting to fix some problems. If you have any problems with the EFI like not able to boot into OpenCanopy, we will fix it soon. Our main goal is fixing up Wi-Fi & Bluetooth.

I will continue to focus on Big Sur for now and focus on Monterey once Apple releases a date & proper finished build of Monterey to make all users running Big Sur still supported and on updates rather than being on they're own.

Monterey is now planned to roll out on the 25th. I may be able to get an EFI for Monterey at maybe the 30th.

Update: I will probably need an extra week ahead for the EFI so it may also got up to the 7th of November. I would recommend waiting to upgrade and making sure everything you need functions no problem with Monterey before continuing the upgrade of both the OS and EFI.

I will no longer be issuing updates for Big Sur and will be focusing on Monterey. I have gotten Monterey to start but need to update to RC & try to fix IntelBluetooth. Any suggestions would be helpful, thanks!

Big Sur has been issued its final update which involves a fix with Bluetooth. Monterey's EFI is progressing nicely. The only thing needed to fix is now IntelBluetooth. If anyone would like to help, I'm using zxystd's IntelBluetoothFirmware, BlueToolFixup with IntelBluetoothInjector disabled to prevent kernel panics and slow startups. This is not a issue to those who need Bluetooth but is to those who require Bluetooth. The patch for B10 and newer is on OpenIntelWireless/IntelBluetoothFirmware#347 & spoofs Broadcom as Apple has changed bluetoothd to only function on Broadcom cards & CSR cards. Everything else works with no problems, including software updates. I will be releasing the same EFI that I've been talking about soon but Bluetooth may not work until I find a solution. If Bluetooth is crucial to you, I advise staying with Big Sur and updating to 0.7.4-3-BS for Bluetooth fix, along with better reliability. Monterey is not the most reliable OS right now and Apple still needs to iron out a few bugs. The EFI that will be released soon will have non-working IntelBluetooth & Monterey RC (12.0.1) support. The new EFI will be released shortly!

Update to those. You can try to enable IntelBluetoothInjector but you may have a kernel panic and not be able to boot into Monterey.

macOS Monterey is out and able to be downloaded. Steps on how to install/upgrade is in README. Keep in mind that some apps and Intel Bluetooth won’t work atm so if you need some crucial apps, I recommend staying on 0.7.4-3-BS and Big Sur until Bluetooth and apps are optimised.

Good news! Intel Bluetooth has gotten a fix on Monterey and now functions as intended. I will be sending out 0.7.5-M when 0.7.5-stock is ready from Acidanthera. If you would like to fix yours up, I recommend using MacBookPro16,2 SMBIOS (for Ice Lake). You have to use the latest commit, not release from github.com/dortania/build-repo & make sure that IntelBluetoothInjector is removed/disabled from config.plist. Reset the NVRAM through the Opencore Boot Picker then you are all set! This will mean Monterey is ready and this will be closed until a new issue comes up.
