"Failed to query current video file path" error in DaVinci Resolve Studio 20.1.1 with Gyroflow Plugin 2.1.1

Hi, thank you for the great work on the Gyroflow plugin.

I'm currently experiencing an issue when using the Gyroflow OFX plugin inside DaVinci Resolve Studio 20.1.1 build 7 (officially licensed version).
Here are the details:

OS: Windows 11

DaVinci Resolve version: 20.1.1 build 7

Gyroflow Plugin (OFX): 2.1.1

Gyroflow App: 1.6.2

When I click the “Load for current file” button inside the plugin, I get the following error popup:

Failed to query current video file path
This feature relies on external scripting and is only available in paid Resolve Studio. You have to allow executing scripts.

However, I am using the paid Studio version, and in the preferences under
Preferences > System > General > External scripting using,
I have already set the option to “Local”, as recommended.

Despite this, the error persists.

What I've tried so far:

Reinstalling Gyroflow (app)

Resetting Gyroflow settings

Reinstalling the Gyroflow Plugin (OFX)

Restarting Resolve

Confirming external scripting is set to “Local”

Verifying the Studio license is correctly activated

None of the above resolved the issue.

Any suggestions or potential fixes would be greatly appreciated. Please let me know if I can provide logs or any other diagnostic information to help troubleshoot this further.

Are you using any compound clips? Is the playhead on the video you're trying to load? It needs to be currently displayed frame and not first or last frame

To answer your question:

I’m not using any compound clips.

The playhead is on the clip I’m trying to load, and I’ve made sure it’s not on the first or last frame.

This exact same setup used to work fine in previous versions, without any changes to workflow or system settings.

Additionally, I’ve tested the following:

I selected a single clip on the timeline in the Edit page, and applied the Gyroflow OFX effect by dragging it from the Effects panel – the error still occurs.

I also tried using the Gyroflow node setup inside the Fusion tab, and the same error appears there as well.

So far, the issue persists regardless of whether I use it in Edit or Fusion, and regardless of how the plugin is applied.

Let me know if there's anything else I can try or share to help troubleshoot this further.

Hmm on the edit page, the plugin should load the data without clicking anything. What's your video file? Which camera and format?

The last file I tested was recorded with a Sony FX3, using the XAVC S-I codec.

When I open the same file directly in the Gyroflow application (outside of Resolve) using the file browser, everything works fine — the file loads without issues and the application behaves as expected. So it doesn't seem to be a problem with the file itself or the Gyroflow app.

That said, perhaps my workflow might be contributing to the issue.

Here's how I normally use the plugin:

1. I apply the Gyroflow plugin to a clip on the Edit page.
2. Without adjusting any parameters in the Resolve plugin panel, I immediately click “Open in Gyroflow”.
3. This launches the standalone Gyroflow application, where I load the data, adjust settings, and save the project.
4. Back in Resolve, I click “Reload Project” in the plugin panel to update it with the saved project.

This has worked for me in the past, but maybe skipping the initial adjustments in the plugin panel is causing the current issue?
I’m happy to adjust my process if needed — just let me know what the recommended approach is.

But doesn't it load the initial data in the edit page after applying the plugin but without clicking anything? Check in Loaded project at the bottom

Yes, you're right. I just tested it again, and the initial data does load correctly in the Edit page after applying the plugin — even without clicking anything.

In the plugin panel, under the Info > Loaded Project section, I can see that the correct file is recognized and applied as expected.

Also, when I click "Open in Gyroflow", the data is passed to the standalone application without any issues.

It seems that the plugin works fine overall — as long as I don’t click the "Load for current file" button.

As soon as I click that button, the error popup appears.

"Load for current file" uses external program to execute a script. Check if you can launch "fuscript.exe" from the Resolve installation directory directly - maybe something is blocking this program, like antivirus software or something

Thank you for looking into this issue.

As you suggested, I tried launching the fuscript.exe file both by double-clicking it in Windows Explorer and also from the terminal. In both cases, the executable runs without any issues.

However, the problem still remains when using the plugin as a node inside the Fusion tab — in this case, the plugin does not automatically load the current file, and the "Load for current file" button does not work either.

So, when using the plugin as a Fusion node, I have to manually load the video file using the "Browse" button instead.

open the Gyroflow app, go to Advanced -> Open data folder and send me gyroflow-openfx.log. Do that after clicking "Load for current video" and then closing Resolve

in the video you set the playhead at the first frame. What if you move it to middle of the clip before clicking the button?

The log contains:

13:53:04 [DEBUG] (14) gyroflow_ofx::fuscript: fuscript stdout: 
13:53:04 [DEBUG] (14) gyroflow_ofx::fuscript: fuscript stderr: [string "???"]:1: attempt to index a nil value

This means fuscript failed to get the clip info (this script)

Why? I have no idea, I can't reproduce it. It works fine for me
