Automatic cloud sync #783
Comments
I agree that it could be useful for some users. But did you read https://github.com/gorhill/uBlock/wiki/Cloud-storage? it explains why the more glandular method was chosen. |
Not automatically importing cloud data is by design, I do not intend to change this. |
@gorhill Not even optionally? |
This should be an optional feature. I understand the risks and would always use this feature if it existed. |
Please add this feature as an optional feature and with the proper warnings if needed. |
I prefer firefox sync as it was included for a long time but the name is not used. I recommend using the name (firefox sync at leat in brackets) and automatically syncing settings across installations as tab mix does etc. I always want to operate on my best set of rules and not unconciously replicating them at work and at home... |
I am thankful for the feature!! Now I know... |
@gorhill any chance of implementing this as an option? (is there a dedicated place for feature requests?) |
@gorhill Please implement this. If you work regularly in 4+ PCs (and servers, at the same time) you'll forget which ones you've updated. That's the only reason I'm still using Adblock Plus. |
+1, I have to remember each time that there are changes and go to the dashboard to download them, |
AFAIK yes. Both automatic filter update and rule sync with Firefox Sync. I tried uBlock and immediately wanted to throw ABD in the thrash can but auto syncing is a must for me. 😢 |
You are thinking of the legacy version of Adblock Plus. As far as I know, there is no sync ability -- manual or automatic -- in webext version of ABP. So you are using the legacy version of ABP, which means you are using an obsolete version of Firefox. There are limitations out of uBO's control with Firefox Sync (size, occurrences, remote server status, etc.), and running into one of these limitations could easily cause important data to be lost. Hence why the syncing is manual, if you ever were to run into one of these limitations, you would be aware of the issue. |
I'm using firefox 52 esr and ublock legacy version, automatic syncing isn't there either, |
@gorhill I'm using FF 58.0. I haven't paid much attention to addons lately which is why I said AFAIK. I didn't know the webext version didn't have it. uBO supports cloud storage, right? It's just manual sync. I'm sure the limitations can be worked around so the sync could be done automatically. I really, really, really liked uBO and I hope some day you'll wake up in the wrong side of the bed and say "F*** it, let's make it happen". I know this is the worst possible way to get the feature --no work on my part-- but is the best I can do right now. 😄 |
It would be useful if uBlock could sync automatically with the cloud if cloud storage support is enabled.
