impl(w1r3): deal with preconditions

A consequence of using pre-conditions (to avoid duplicate uploads) is
that sometimes the upload fails (transport errors, timeouts, etc), but
succeeded.

This is not a problem the client library can deal with, we need to
handle it in the benchmark and/or application.
