GADMediaView Pause & Mute/Unmute Embedded Buttons Are Disabled

If the GADMediaView is contained directly within a GADTTemplateView the pause & mute/unmute buttons are enabled and function as expected.

If the GADMediaView is embedded in a deeper view hierarchy (a UIStackView to enable layout) then the pause & mute/unmute buttons appear but clicking on them has no effect.

Note that some interaction still works (when the pause & mute/unmute buttons are not working) as when the video is completed and the replay button appears (the large circle with the arrow) the replay button allows the video to be replayed.
