Summary of Changes

Hello @gemini-cli-robot, I'm Gemini Code Assist1! I'm currently reviewing this pull request and will post my feedback shortly. In the meantime, here's a summary to help you and other reviewers quickly get up to speed!

This pull request is an automated cherry-pick that updates the CLI's configuration schema to introduce a new type field for mcpServers. This enhancement provides greater control and clarity by allowing users to explicitly define the transport mechanism (stdio, SSE, or HTTP) for their MCP servers. The change is supported by updated schema descriptions and robust validation tests to ensure proper configuration.

Highlights

  • New type field for mcpServers: Introduced a new type field within the mcpServers configuration, allowing explicit specification of transport types.
  • Supported Transport Types: The type field now supports stdio (for local commands), sse (for Server-Sent Events), and http (for Streamable HTTP) transport types.
  • Updated Schema Descriptions: The description for the url field in mcpServers has been updated to clarify its use with sse or http transport and the new type field.
  • Enhanced Validation Tests: New test cases have been added to comprehensively validate the mcpServers configuration, including correct usage of the type field and rejection of invalid type values.

🧠 New Feature in Public Preview: You can now enable Memory to help Gemini Code Assist learn from your team's feedback. This makes future code reviews more consistent and personalized to your project's style. Click here to enable Memory in your admin console.

Code Review

This pull request introduces a type field for mcpServers configuration to explicitly define the transport protocol (stdio, sse, http), which improves clarity. The schema and tests have been updated accordingly. My main feedback is to address the potential ambiguity and configuration conflict between the existing httpUrl property and the new ability to use url with type: 'http', which could lead to confusion. I've suggested deprecating httpUrl to prevent misconfiguration.
