Some Songs are cut in between #337

Description

@HimanshuSh31

I noticed that some of the songs are cut in between like a portion is skipped directly, so it needs to be fixed as it is annoying

Can you provide a link for these songs? And which codec does this error happen?

Multiple songs in Bollywood, what I do is I download complete albums, so in that some songs are cut in between not all of them, if I calculate then maybe out of 10 albums 4 have issues, It is happening in ALAC codec.

I had this issue with some songs when downloading in ALAC quality. Try using MusicBee as an audio player and see if you have the same skips. For me all ALAC songs play flawlessly on it, and if you want to convert it to FLAC then use Freac. It uses something different than FFMPEG which is what things like VLC use, and it converts them with no issue in skipping. Hope this helps! Took me ages to figure it out.

I also noticed an audio skipping / missing-frames issue with this track:
    https://music.apple.com/jp/album/parting-the-miasma/6797434770?i=6797434995

The downloaded audio has noticeable skips, as if some frames or segments are missing. This happens when downloading with the wrapper/ALAC path.

Just tried it, https://transfer.it/t/QuGKI38TRTCT no issues at all when playing it back in ALAC on musicbee.

I don't think the fact that fre:ac or MusicBee can play/convert the file normally proves that the downloaded file itself is fine.

With this track, the original ALAC downloaded by gamdl has audible stutters, and foobar2000/FFmpeg report decoding errors.

I also compared the decoded length:

    Original M4A: 5,774,574 samples/channel = 130.943 s
    fre:ac FLAC: 5,799,150 samples/channel = 131.500 s

After conversion with fre:ac, the audible skips disappear. This may simply mean fre:ac/MusicBee handle the malformed frames more gracefully. Being able to play or convert the file normally does not necessarily mean the original downloaded ALAC is valid.

So this still looks like a possible bug in gamdl's ALAC download/decryption/muxing path.

WorldObservationLog/wrapper#51 This is the original thread I opened in the wrapper a while back. The final comment from 1727disc says it must be an issue with m3u8/ts which to my understanding is some form of embedded text file that tells whatever player how to play the track. Now I am not vast at coding or knowledge as to how this all 100% works even though I wish I did, but I have learned that Musicbee and Freac use the BASS audio library playback engine rather than ffmpeg which I guess is something that Apple uses for their audio/video players in Mac OS. I am uncertain if it is some miscommunication between the two different engines or if it's just something that accidentally happens when files are uploaded to Apple Music. However if the tracks are 99.99% flawless in their conversion over to FLAC with tools like Freac then that works for me, but I do agree it's both odd an rather unfortunate that it happens. I tried the same track for multiple weeks and it never worked properly, but at least with this method I have never audibly heard an issue in the tracks, and they all sound very good on the pretty solid playback hardware I have used.

It’s likely because ytp-dl doesn’t ensure all segments of a song are fully downloaded before merging. Try N_m3u8DL-RE instead.

    Image

As shown in the screenshot above, two segments were missing during the download, yet the process still reported success and produced an incomplete file.

I tried what you recommended and I still have the same skips in the same song at the same point using N_m3u8DL-RE instead. Wolves from Selena Gomez and and Marshmello skips at the drop right at 1:08-1:10 exactly the same as ytdlp. I have tried this song over many, many months and it's always the same thing. @glomatico is this a fixable thing? or is the method I am using pretty much the best way to eliminate skips that can come from some songs?
