Feature request: enable virtual media from USB port

An USB stick (FAT / EXT) connected to the Comet’s USB 2 port is mounted and fully accessible from the terminal.

Considering the limited amount of space for virtual media on the Comet itself, it would be extremely welcome if within the GUI mounting images or files from an USB stick to the host would be possible.

The direct competitors JetKVM and NanoKVM have a lot more space available. The Comet cannot even hold a current Windows 10/11 image, 5.7 Gb. is too small.

Excellent. I tried unmounting the block device on /userdata/media and mount the USB drive /dev/sda1 to that directory but that did not work, I guess the kmvd code resets it when you access the virtual media tab in the GUI.

Because I hard-coded the media partition in the python code, it resets every time it is mounted

Yes, that is what I experienced. Better put the directory for virtual media in a config file.

Configure USB Drive as Internal Storage

First, make sure your USB drive is formatted as exFAT. Otherwise, you may encounter all kinds of strange issues. Then insert the USB drive into the USB-A port and run the following commands to locate the UUID of your USB drive partition using blkid and df:

As shown above, your USB drive has two partitions. One of them is 120GB and is mounted at /dev/sda1, with a UUID of 4E21-0000. So, you should enter the following command and reboot the device. This will enable the USB drive to be used as a file transfer medium:
