Feature Request: Feature Workflow Orchestration

Overview

Add comprehensive orchestration capabilities for end-to-end feature development, automating the entire process from specification to task generation with seamless integration between different phases.

Current State

  • Individual commands exist but lack orchestration
  • Manual process for feature development workflow
  • No automated integration between specification and implementation phases

Proposed Features

1. Feature Workflow Orchestration Scripts

  • Unix/Linux Support: scripts/bash/execute-feature-workflow.sh for Unix/Linux environments
  • Windows Support: scripts/powershell/execute-feature-workflow.ps1 for Windows environments
  • Cross-Platform: Consistent behavior across different operating systems
  • Automated Execution: Complete automation of feature development workflow

2. Automated Feature Development Process

  • Specification Generation: Automated feature specification creation
  • Clarification Process: Interactive clarification and refinement
  • Planning Integration: Seamless transition from spec to implementation plan
  • Task Generation: Automatic task breakdown and assignment
  • Quality Validation: Built-in quality checks and validation

3. Command Documentation

  • Command Guide: templates/commands/feature-workflow.md command documentation
  • Usage Examples: Clear examples and use cases
  • Best Practices: Best practices for feature development
  • Integration Guide: How to integrate with existing workflows

Benefits

  • End-to-End Automation: Complete automation of feature development
  • Consistent Process: Standardized approach across all features
  • Reduced Manual Work: Minimize manual intervention and errors
  • Better Quality: Built-in quality checks and validation

Implementation Details

  • Create orchestration scripts for both platforms
  • Implement automated workflow execution
  • Add comprehensive command documentation
  • Include quality validation and error handling

Workflow Phases

  1. Specification Phase: Create and validate feature specifications
  2. Clarification Phase: Interactive clarification and refinement
  3. Planning Phase: Generate implementation plans and architecture
  4. Task Generation: Break down into actionable tasks
  5. Validation Phase: Quality checks and validation

Integration Points

  • Spec-Driven Development: Full integration with spec-driven methodology
  • AI Assistant Support: Works with all supported AI assistants
  • Project Management: Integration with project management tools
  • Quality Assurance: Built-in quality gates and validation

Use Cases

  • Feature Development: Complete feature lifecycle automation
  • Team Onboarding: Standardized processes for new team members
  • Quality Assurance: Consistent quality across all features
  • Process Optimization: Streamlined development processes

Automation Features

  • Smart Defaults: Intelligent defaults based on project context
  • Interactive Prompts: User-friendly interactive prompts
  • Error Recovery: Robust error handling and recovery
  • Progress Tracking: Real-time progress tracking and reporting

This feature transforms feature development from a manual, error-prone process into a streamlined, automated workflow that ensures consistency and quality.

    Implementation Details

Feature Idea: I came up with the idea for comprehensive feature workflow orchestration to automate end-to-end feature development from specification to task generation.

Implementation: The feature was implemented using VS Code + GitHub Copilot + Claude Sonnet 4 model to create the feature workflow orchestration scripts and templates.

    Correction: Pull Request Reference

Previous comment referenced a non-existent PR.

The referenced PR #5 does not exist in the github/spec-kit repository. This issue (Feature workflow orchestration) does not currently have a corresponding pull request.

The feature described in this issue is still pending implementation.

This seems AI-generated with no direct outline of the problem or verification of how this was tested and validated. Please re-open the issue if you've verified that this behavior exists in Specify - mention your OS, how you're running Specify (arguments, slash-commands in IDE/CLI) and what is the output tree.

In short, the proposal is: specify → apply best judgment to fix clarifications (as you mentioned yourself in a video I watched yesterday morning) → plan → implement — all triggered by a single prompt. Let the @copilot chatbox digest it; it has proven to be more open-minded and less opinionated about PRs. In that same video, you said you'd only implement proposals that are easy to add. But by limiting it this way, the app may not reach its full potential. Let it be free, let it fly farther and higher.
